Lori Freeman, PsyD is a licensed clinical sport psychologist with specialized expertise on the unique demands of collegiate athletes. She works with student-athletes to maximize performance and overall mental wellness. Her areas of clinical specialty include anxiety, depression, eating disorders and body image, and trauma-related concerns. She was a collegiate student-athlete at Northwestern University and completed her doctoral training at La Salle University with internship and postdoctoral fellowships at the University of Oklahoma and the University of Florida.

Trained and licensed as a clinical psychologist with specialized expertise on the unique demands of being a competitor/performer, Lori works with clients to maximize their performance and overall well-being and satisfaction in life. She focuses on mood and anxiety disorders, eating disorders, body image concerns, trauma-related concerns, adjustment difficulties, and relationship issues. Lori also maintains a private practice in

Charlottesville, VA, working with adolescents and adults utilizing practical and evidence-based treatments including cognitive behavioral therapy, dialectical behavior therapy, acceptance and commitment therapy, and mindfulness. She is integrative in her approach to treatment, utilizing interventions that are empirically supported and fit best for her clients’ needs. She has experience in inpatient, intensive outpatient, and outpatient settings with disordered eating populations, and has served as clinical and sports psychologist to varsity student-athletes in a variety of university settings. She was a competitive swimmer at Northwestern University before completing her doctorate in clinical psychology from La Salle University, where she coached as a graduate assistant in their swimming & diving programs. She completed her doctoral internship in the University of Oklahoma’s Athletic Department followed by a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Florida’s Counseling and Wellness Center. In both positions, she specialized in treating the clinical and performance needs of student-athletes. She then served as the liaison to Athletics at Northwestern’s Counseling Center, building sport psychology and mental wellness programs for their student-athletes. In 2015, she built her private practice in Charlottesville, VA where she works with teen, collegiate, amateur, and professional athletes on both clinical and sport-performance needs, and consults with local schools and college teams in the provision of mental health services.
